A Whistler woman tipped off police last Wednesday, April 16, after discovering what she believes are a number of stolen wallets in her former roommate's bedroom.
Whistler RCMP have seized the wallets and are currently working to determine if they are in fact stolen in order to locate any victims of theft and forward potential charges.
Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair did not know if the suspect remains in the resort at this time.
Man seen impersonating police officer at village pub
A man may get to meet a real police officer after impersonating one at a Whistler bar early Sunday morning, April 20.
Staff at the village pub called police to report that a male was seen "flashing a fake plastic badge" and claiming to be a police officer, LeClair said.
The suspect, described as a 6'1", clean cut, overweight Caucasian male with a receding hairline and no discernible accent, was allegedly "attempting to lead intoxicated females out of the club," and also claimed to be a liquor inspector, according to police.
The male was seen leaving the bar with friends after being confronted by staff. The investigation is ongoing.
The maximum penalty for impersonating a police officer is five years imprisonment.
Two mountain bikes reported stolen from Whistler Cay home
Whistler RCMP is reminding the public to keep their bikes locked up following a reported theft of two mountain bikes from a Whistler Cay home on Monday, April 21.
The suspect is thought to have gained entry to a garage using a garage door opener that was left in an unlocked vehicle parked in front of the complainant's home.
The complainant reported a men's Rocky Mountain full-suspension mountain bike, and a green children's Kranked front-suspension mountain bike stolen.
"We're getting into the season now where bikes are going to start to be stolen, so lock up your bikes, remove your garage door opener from you vehicle if it's going to be parked on your property in front of your garage because that's a common method for thieves to access them," LeClair said.
RMCP will be continuing a bait bike program, called Sea to Sky Free Ride, throughout the spring and summer. The program was first launched in Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish last summer.
Plenty of liquor-related tickets issued through WSSF
Local police have tabulated their final ticket and arrest numbers for both weekends of the 19th annual World Ski and Snowboard Festival, which concluded Sunday, April 20.
During the first weekend, April 12 and 13, officers issued a total of 42 municipal tickets, primarily for open liquor said LeClair, and 17 provincial violation tickets, also for open liquor. Six people were arrested for liquor-related offences.
On the festival's closing weekend, April 19 and 20, officers wrote 53 municipal tickets for open liquor and three provincial violation tickets. Two individuals were arrested for public intoxication, police said.
"On the second weekend (of WSSF) it looks like we had a lot of people up from the Lower Mainland and they (comprised) the majority of the tickets that were issued," LeClair noted.
