On Jan. 6 a man came into the RCMP to report an assault that took place just after 2 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 4, resulting in the arrest of a 24-year-old male on Jan. 8.
According to reports the confrontation started in a coffee shop after an argument between two groups of men.
The victim, a 19-year-old from Whistler, left the establishment with a sandwich, and joined his friends at the taxi loop. It appears that one of his friends was attempting to get into a taxi, when the other group had precedence. Seeing the confrontation, the victim walked over to find out what was going on when the suspect knocked the sandwich out of his hand. The victim threw the remains of his sandwich at the suspect, who responded physically. The victim was knocked to the ground and punched repeatedly, with the assault continuing even after he lost consciousness. His injuries included two black eyes and a broken cheekbone that will require surgery.
The suspect was arrested on Jan. 8 and held in custody until he could appear in court on Jan. 9. He has not been formally charged, but police are recommending a charge of aggravated assault.
Missing Pemberton man located
After disappearing from the house he was staying in the early hours of Christmas morning, the family of Riley Glenn were able to speak to their son on Jan. 8.
The phone call came after a chance encounter with the police in Vancouver. While investigating the police discovered that Glenn was listed as a missing person, and he contacted his family by phone to let them know he was okay.
Glenn was last seen at midnight on a friend's couch where he was staying, and at 2 a.m. he was gone. He left a note that concerned friends and family members, resulting in a search for the 25-year-old.
The police in Vancouver released Glenn, who appeared to be in good health.
Suspect found with stolen tools
The RCMP arrested a 28-year-old Birken man for theft after roughly $5,000 in tools was taken from a locked trailer outside a work site.
The theft occurred between 3 p.m. on Jan. 7 and the morning of Jan. 9. According to the owner of the tools — the suspect's former employer — the thief would have had to know the location of the trailer key to gain access. He suggested that the suspect might have been involved, and when the RCMP attended the suspect's residence they found him in possession of the missing items.
The suspect is facing charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
Police investigate B&E
The RCMP in Pemberton is investigating a break-in to a warehouse and several lockers with personal items that occurred just before 4 a.m. on Jan. 3. The thief gained entry through a door and used a prybar to gain access to the lockers. Various items confirmed missing include liquor, a black Swiss Army backpack with 30 DVDs, and a drill.
The thief left the prybar at the scene and an RCMP fingerprint team was brought out to take prints.
RCMP seek walk safe volunteers
The Whistler RCMP is looking for volunteers to assist in putting together packages for the Walk Safe program, announced in October to increase pedestrian safety and awareness. The packages include high-visibility reflectors that people can attach to their persons while walking at night. If you can spare some time there is an assembly line this Friday, Jan. 13 at the Whistler Public Library from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
