RCMP encourage locals to snitch on school bus passers

The Whistler-Pemberton RCMP detachment is taking action against what they say is a growing number of offenders who are passing corridor school buses that are picking up or dropping off students.

Their biggest areas of concern are the three-way stop at Highway 99 and Alpine Way, at Highway 99 and Alta Vista, and Highway 99 between Mount Currie and the Petro Canada in Pemberton.

School bus drivers, teachers, parents and PAC members have indicated their concerns to the RCMP, who are taking action.

Not only will they be watching the bus routes closer, prepared to hand out $167 fines to offenders, they are also asking for members of the community to snitch on motorists that pass school buses. If you see a car pass a stopped school bus that has a stop arm extended or flashing lights, you can contact the RCMP with license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions, information on the direction of travel and a description of what took place.

The RCMP at 604-932-3044 in Whistler and 604-894-6634 in Pemberton.
