RCMP Report

Police alerted to card skimmer

Despite most banks switching over to cards with chips, thieves haven't given up trying to steal bank card numbers and pin codes.

On March 30 at 5:10 p.m. the Whistler RCMP were alerted to a card skimmer that had been attached to an automated bank machine at the entranceway to a local restaurant.

The police attended and spoke to two male suspects. They have sent the skimmer away to test it for fingerprints. If any fingerprints are discovered they will be checked against prints kept in a national database.

Employees of restaurants and retail should take care to protect their card readers and members of the public should be on the lookout for card skimmers attached to bank machines.

Police on the hunt for nude scammer

The Whistler RCMP are searching for a man who was observed breaking into a Whistler Village hotel through the pool and hot tub area, going to the change room and emerging naked - presumably to join two women already in the pool.

Hotel security confronted the man who went back into the change room, got dressed and left. He was seen driving away in a dark vehicle, possibly an import, with the first three licence plate numbers of 961.

The RCMP are checking the database of vehicles that start with those numbers to try and identify the suspect.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on April 4, but was not reported to the RCMP until half an hour later. By then the women by the pool had left.

The man is described as 40 to 42 years old with olive skin, between five-foot-11 and six feet tall. He spoke English with no accent and was last seen wearing jeans, running shoes and a black jacket.

Suspects sought in village assault

At 3:21 a.m. on April 1 the Whistler RCMP received a report of an assault in the village where a group of seven to 10 males attacked two males outside a Whistler nightclub.

The RCMP attended the house of the victims to get their statement. Neither male required medical attention.

The attackers were unknown to the men, although one of the victims told the RCMP he could positively identify his attackers if he saw them again.

If you have any information contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044.

Police follow up on sexual assault

Just before 5 p.m. on March 30 a man entered a local retail store. When the female clerk asked if he could help the man he became aggressive, asking the woman out and closing the distance between the two. When the woman turned to walk away the man grabbed her buttocks.

He left the store and she called the RCMP. Police have a suspect, based on her description. The male has had several dealings with the police in the past, although none for a sexual assault.

Skis and boards getting stolen

The RCMP are reminding members of the public to lock up their skis and snowboards after six reports of stolen gear over the past weekend. The boards were taken from the top of the mountains and from Skiers Plaza.

Art, kitchen thief caugh t

The Whistler RCMP have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a painting and a cutting board from a condo at the 4200 block of Sunshine Place on the afternoon of April 5.

According to the police the male joined a party that was taking place in one unit of the complex, although those individuals claim they didn't know the person. Once at the party the suspect climbed over the balcony into the adjoining room. He had a shower and took a piece of art valued at $700 and a cutting board. He was captured by cameras heading into the building and leaving with the stolen property. RCMP made an arrest on April 6. Charges are still pending.

Alcohol thief apprehended

A 50-year-old Whistler male is facing charges after allegedly stealing roughly 30 bottles of wine, beer and coolers from an on-mountain restaurant on April 3. The incident was called in after 4 p.m., and on-mountain RCMP found the man in possession of the alcohol. He will likely face charges of theft under $5,000.

Impaired drivers still getting caught

The Whistler RCMP handed out several 24 suspensions over the past week, and three drivers were charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08.

On April 3 at 7:30 p.m. a vehicle stopped for erratic driving turned up a 22-year-old Whistler male, who provided breathalyzer samples of .160 and .140.

On April 5 at 1:05 a.m. a 46-year-old male of no fixed address was stopped at Highway 99 and failed the roadside test. He was taken to the detachment where he provided samples of .140. He will appear in North Vancouver Court on June 5.

On April 6 at 1:43 a.m. the RCMP observed a pickup truck driving close to the barriers while heading north on Highway 99 from the village. After watching more erratic behaviour police stopped the 24-year-old Whistler male in Alpine Meadows and obtained two samples of 0.130.
