RCMP seize horses

Cruelty to animals allegations under investigation

The Pemberton RCMP and SPCA have seized 20 horses in a cruelty to animals investigation in the Devine and D’Arcy area.

Two men are under investigation but to date no charges have been laid.

The Pemberton RCMP detachment received information alleging cruelty to animals on July 7. It was alleged that approximately 20 horses were malnourished and not receiving appropriate care.

Working with the B.C. SPCA, an RCMP investigation led to execution of a search warrant on Aug. 2 at two properties, in Devine and D’Arcy. The response team included two SPCA constables, two RCMP officers, a certified veterinarian, a technician and transport teams.

Four horses from a property in Devine and 16 horses from a farm in the 9500 block of Portage Road were ordered seized. RCMP report local citizens assisted in the rescue effort.
