RCMP warning employees

Beware of home interviews

In addition to the usual issue of finding an affordable place to live, prospective employees looking for work in Whistler this season have a new problem.

RCMP cautioned job seekers to be wary of advertisements asking them to meet potential employers in private homes. Resulting from a complaint, police are tight-lipped about the investigation of a recent suspicious advertisement, but are encouraging caution.

Cst. Ann-Marie Gallop says job seekers phoning potential employers should ask about specific job duties and if the suggestion is to meet in the employer’s home ask instead that the meeting be in a coffee shop or public place.

“We want people to be vigilant if they’re applying for something,” Gallop said. “Be aware when you’re answering employment to make sure it is a valid request. Use your common sense and ask a lot of questions.”

If something seems amiss contact local RCMP.
