20 victims pay up to $500 in deposits on rented room

A man who convinced 20 victims to pay him up to $500 to secure a room in a house that was already rented has been identified by the police as 28-year-old Sam Bailey. Originally from the U.K. the RCMP is currently working to confirm his whereabouts.

According to the RCMP, Bailey took out ads in Pique and on Craigslist advertising the room on Eagle Drive for November and accepted deposits to hold the room. When the victims arrived at the residence they discovered that it was already rented out.

 

Man on house arrest caught with drugs, alcohol

A 38-year-old man from Alberta, currently under house arrest in Whistler for offences made before he moved to town, is facing several additional new charges related to breaching the conditions of probation order and possession of a controlled substance.

An RCMP officer attended the residence at 8:50 p.m. on April 8 to ensure that the individual was home. He was, but the police also noticed cans of beer and marijuana at the scene. They enacted a warrant and returned the next day, where a search turned up more marijuana, cocaine, steroids and other substances that have been sent to the lab for identification.

The man made a video appearance with a justice on Alberta, and was remanded into custody in that province until he could appear in court.

The list of charges includes a breach of a recognizance not to possess drugs and alcohol, breach of probation, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possibly additional counts as well.

The male is under probation for obstructing a police officer, assault, dangerous driving and other offences in Leduc and Edmonton Alberta.

 

Man arrested with knives

At 7:36 a.m. on April 12, the RCMP received a call regarding a male walking along Gondola Way with a knife. Police attended and discovered the male at the bus stop at Gondola Way and London Lane, with a kitchen knife tucked into his pants. He also had a steak knife.

The 40-year-old male from Surrey gave up the weapons willingly, and was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act. He was eventually taken to Lions Bay Hospital for an evaluation.

 

Male arrested for assault

A dispute between two men got violent on April 11 just before 10 a.m. when the resident of the lower floor of a building on the 1400 block of Alpha Lake Road went into the upstairs suite and punched the resident six times. The police attended and a 44-year-old male was arrested. He will make his first court appearance on May 18.

 

Mt. Currie man caught with bag of marijuana

At roughly 12:30 a.m. on April 9, the RCMP received a report of a suspicious male in Alpine who was approaching people. The police attended and found two men wearing backpacks. They knew that one of the men was on probation and under a condition not to consume alcohol.

After detecting alcohol on the man's breath, the RCMP arrested the man. On searching his pack they discovered 126 grams of marijuana, resulting in charges of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance for trafficking.

 

Thefts reported in Pemberton and Whistler

This week the RCMP answered several calls related to theft and attempted break-and-enters, three in Pemberton and one in Whistler.

At 2:07 a.m. on April 5 the RCMP answered an alarm call at a social club in Pemberton, and when they attended they discovered that the lock was broken on the gate and that someone had attempted to pry their way into the building. The individual didn't get in though he did $50 in damage to locks.

On April 6 at 8:45 a.m., the RCMP received a call from a business on the 1300 block of Birch Road. According to the police the thief used something to pry open two doors, the pried open several cash drawers. Only $20 in change was missing.

On April 11 at 12:30 p.m. the Pemberton RCMP received a report of a theft on the 7500 block of Pemberton Meadows Road. Sometime over the weekend a thief stole a hydraulic post hold digger worth roughly $8,000. The lock attaching the digger to the fence was cut and a trailer carried it away.

Lastly, the RCMP received a call on April 8 at 8:39 a.m. after two snack kiosks on the mountains were broken into the previous evening, one on Whistler and the other on Blackcomb. Each had about $600 in cash, and the locks were taken as well.
