A stone's throw away from the doors of the Re-Use-It Centre are bins where people would simply recycle the bottles and cans that can be exchanged for a deposit at the liquor store or bottle depot.

"We get a lot of people asking if they can leave the bottle with us," said Re-Use-It Centre manager Helen Taylor. "They don't have to go to Nesters to get their returns back or they just don't care about it."

Now, using space that was previously reserved for furniture — currently housed at the Re-Build-It Centre warehouse on Alpha Lake Road — will be used to accept bottles and cans. They also have a bin beside the recycling bin, and smaller bins have also started popping up at stratas that have waste collection services.

The new collection bins are a joint effort between the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS), the Resort Municipality of Whistler and Regional Recycling, which owns the Whistler Bottle Depot. Proceeds from the bottles and cans will go back into WCSS programs, including the Food Bank. For more, visit www.mywcss.org.
