The Whistler Writers Festival has revealed the lineup for the second event in its Spring Reading Series.
Called Illuminating Worlds, the event will feature four artists from four different genres, including Chelene Knight with memoir, John Mavin representing short stories, poet Arleen Paré and novelist Timothy Taylor.
Whistler filmmaker and writer Rebecca Wood Barrett will serve as moderator.
"Our audiences love variety, so we're bringing together four exciting authors writing in four different genres," says Stella Harvey, artistic director of the Whistler Writers Festival in a release. "These award-winning authors are also exploring subject matter and themes that are unique to their experiences and imagination."
The event takes place on June 22 at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre. Doors are at 7 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 available at whistlerwritersfest.com.
New exhibit at The Gallery
Mark your calendar; a new exhibit is set to be installed at The Gallery.
Starting on June 15, long-time local artists Lisa Geddes and Cheryl Massey are teaming up for a show called Associations.
It will feature Geddes' abstract paintings and Massey's woven baskets. The common thread: it's "a show inspired by the merging of life, nature and creative expression," according to Arts Whistler, which is hosting the exhibit.
In a conversation with the organization, Geddes says, "the show highlights how art not only acts as visual enjoyment, but when brought into your home can enhance quality of life and home décor."
Catch the opening party on Saturday, June 15 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The show will be on display until July 15.
Encore for award-winning play
Between Shifts Theatre Society is bringing back its award-winning play, The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble, for one encore presentation on June 29 at the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish.
The production recently won a slew of awards at the North Shore Zone Festival, earning it a slot at Theatre BC's Mainstage Festival in Vernon in July.
The local show will serve as a fundraiser to help finance the society's trip to the competition.

Bratz Biz deadline looms
Young artisans hoping to take part in the annual Bratz Biz craft sale better get busy: the deadline to submit an application is June 7.
Then, on June 14, a jury will meet with applicants at The Brewhouse to go over their submission. Entrepreneurs will have to talk about how they made their craft, where the materials come from and provide a sample.
Those selected will have the opportunity to sell their work from Nov. 24 to Nov. 25 at the Arts Whistler Holiday Market.
