Record number of bikes sold at WORCA swap

Loonie going ahead, Youth Dirt Camps announced

Despite temperatures that were more January than April, WORCA held its biggest ever bike swap this past Saturday, with revenues over $105,000 for the day. The previous record was just over $76,000.

After covering costs, WORCA anticipates earning roughly $12,000 for its youth programs through the sale, subsidizing eight youth dirt camps, four youth Toonie Nights for younger kids, a scholarship, and a grant to the Whistler Secondary school team. The money also subsidizes WORCA youth memberships and family memberships.

WORCA is also going ahead with plans to host the first Loonie Race of the season on May 1, despite the snowpack. Right now it looks like the course will include Cut Yer Bars, and volunteers are already shoveling snow off the trail. More information will be available soon at www.worca.com.

The cost of memberships will be the same as last year — $40 for adults, $25 for youth, and $90 for families (two adults and up to two kids). Online registration will be available at www.worca.com, and at all WORCA events during the season.

WORCA also announced its dates for its youth dirt camp, and registration gets underway on May 15 on the www.worca.com website. Each camp will have up to 30 spots, depending on coach availability, and will cost $150 for the week.
