Recycling program expands As of Oct. 1 you’re garbage will become even more profitable. B.C.’s expanded deposit refund system for beverage containers will include all ready to serve drink containers, with the exception of milk and milk substitute containers. Beverages sold in polycoat containers such as drinking boxes and gable-top containers will not be part of this program until Oct. 1, 1999. As part of the new program, wine and liquor bottles will also have a deposit across B.C. These containers will be accepted at all Liquor Distribution Branch stores and bottle depots. "Consumer convenience is a top priority for this program," says Environment Land and Parks Minister Cathy McGregor. "I urge all British Columbians to watch for detailed information in their local media which fully describes the new expanded system and the opportunities for returning containers in their community."
