Reel look at Canadian star Neil Young

Sundance darling at Village 8

So strong was his abhorrence of commercial music, Canadian legend Neil Young turned down a million dollar offer to perform at Woodstock ’94.

Gain additional insights into the spirited life of this legendary singer/songwriter in Jonathan Demme’s latest documentary Neil Young: Heart of Gold , screening Wednesday, April 12 at 7 and 9:15 p.m. at Village 8 Cinema as part of the Whistler Film Festival’s Reel Alternative Series.

The intimate musical portrait includes the world premiere of Young’s Prairie Wind concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium last summer. The concert wields Young’s latest music, composed after being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.

The official selection of the film for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival brings both the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s music and life into the spotlight.

The Reel Alternative’s spring series wraps up with Golden-Globe-Winner Transamerica April 26, featuring Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Huffman.

Tickets are $8.50 and $6.50 for Reel members. Membership is $4.
