Resort group to invest in Smithers

It may be small and located more than a two hour drive north and west of Prince George, but Ski Smithers hopes to become a world-class ski resort n the tradition of Whistler – only not as big.

Smithers-based Canadian Rocky Holdings Co., a subsidiary of U.S. Cliffs Communities Inc., has signed an agreement with Hudson Bay Mountain Adventures to expand mountain operations by adding runs and lifts, and to build housing, condominiums and other amenities.

The two companies involved in the deal are in the process of putting together a plan for the area that meets the approval of the provincial government.

Unlike other ski resort developments in the province, this project has the support of the local Wet’suwet’en First Nations.
