You may drive like Tiger and chip like Faldo, but until you can sink putts from the fringe you’re never going to earn that PGA tour card. As the saying goes, "drive for show, putt for dough."
To put your putting skills to the test, the Whistler Rotary Club is hosting the first annual Rotary Riverside Green Putting Classic at the new 18 hole putting course at the Riverside RV Park on Aug. 18.
Up to 36 teams of four will be admitted, and each team has to have at least one member of the opposite sex. There will be two "popgun" starts about an hour and a half apart, and the top four teams will each pick a player to go head to head in a sudden death playoff. At the same time, men, women and teams will be competing for the lowest gross scores.
The cost is $100 per team, including the barbecue, and all proceeds will go towards the a special fund for the new library. To register a team, contact Barry at 938-4787 or e-mail [email protected].
The first popgun start will take place at 4 p.m. sharp, and the second is scheduled for 5:20. Each hole has a different corporate sponsor, and prizes will be awarded at the end of the classic.
