RMOW hires GM of Environmental Services

Harry Kim to start work in Whistler Feb. 1

The Resort Municipality of Whistler announced Monday that Harry Kim has been hired as General Manager of Environmental Services.

Kim comes to the RMOW from Wardrop Engineering Inc., where he was the vice president of Strategic Business Development. Kim is also the founding principal of CPG-Franz Environmental Inc., established in 1987. As the company president, Kim was responsible for developing and growing the firm from start-up to a highly profitable environmental practice. CPG Franz was acquired by Wardrop Engineering Inc. which is now a Tetra Tech company.

Prior to his most recent role, Kim was an environmental engineering and construction professional, having managed the environmental portfolios of numerous commercial multinational and government clients, working throughout North America and internationally.

"Harry Kim brings incredible experience to Whistler," said Bill Barratt, CAO of the Resort Municipality of Whistler. "His work and expertise in engineering and environmental stewardship are very well suited to the work at the RMOW."

Kim replaces Brian Barnett, who left the municipality last year. Barnett is now on contract with the District of Squamish to develop a long-term plan for the Squamish landfill.

As general manager of Environmental Services, Kim will be responsible for engineering, utilities, central services, roads, garage, wastewater treatment and environmental stewardship programs at the municipality. Kim will be based in Whistler and starts with the RMOW February 1.

Kim also has experience developing environmental policies and programs for various institutional clients and government, launching new business and service initiatives, mergers and acquisitions. His experience includes client liaison, staff training/mentoring, budgeting, scheduling, project management, and contract management on large multi-year standing offer agreements for blue chip companies, other institutional and government groups.

His previous projects include environmental site assessments and remediation, hydrogeology, risk engineering, directing, coordinating and conducting environmental site assessments, sustainability assessments, emergency spill responses and pollution prevention.

Kim is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers in the Provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
