Following approval from council on Tuesday, March 17, the RMOW has launched a new pilot project that provides new parking options on Main Street for commercial vehicles.

Effective immediately, commercial loading zones will be divided into two categories: one for small vehicles and one for larger vehicles, with additional small parking spaces being added to the inventory.

The changes come after consultation with Main Street merchants and reflect “the need to protect the limited number of large commercial loading zones” and “provide businesses with reasonable access to move materials,” according to a municipal release. It’s also intended to maximize usage of municipal parking and offer a competitively priced parking option.

The zones are only permissible for use by delivery vehicles with commercial vehicle permits, available for purchase at Municipal Hall for $30 per year. Vehicles used for administrative or sales purposes are not eligible.

All commercial vehicles with 2014 decals will be honoured until the end of April.
