The new four-lane access road into the Callaghan Valley is now complete and open to the public.
Originally awarded to Murrin Construction in August 2005, the budget for the road increased from $12 million to $16 million over the two and a half year construction period.
Jeff Knight, spokesperson with the Ministry of Transportation, explained the budget increased because of further improvements to the design, particularly around the bridges, as well as substantial erosion control work.
The road, which begins as two-lanes at the Highway 99 turnoff and then morphs into four lanes, is the main road to access the $119 million Olympic and Paralympic Nordic venue.
The $16 million cost is not calculated as part of the $600 million Sea to Sky highway improvement project.
The road officially opened on Saturday.
