While the rockslide kept numbers down for the Squamish Days 10K run last week, about 70 runners turned out on Sunday to tackle a fast and flat course out of Howe Sound Secondary School.
As a result of the slide, the event would not count towards the provincial Timex Series. The best six of 13 events will count towards the tour title this year instead of the best seven of 14 races.
The fastest runner this year was Hans Aabye in the men’s 30 to 34 race. He finished the race in 34 minutes and 19 seconds, or three and a half minutes faster than second place finisher Garrett Webster. Webster, with a time of 37:49, was the fastest runner in the Men’s Under 19 category.
Third overall and second the Under 19 category was Marcus Ribi in 38:44.
The top Whistler runner was Aenea Cameron in 39:10, racing in the 50 to 54 age category. Third female, and first in the 55 to 59 race, was Whistler’s Brenda Baker in 40:13.
Whistler’s Walter Wallgram was 14 th overall and first in the men’s 50 to 54 age group in 40:45.
Nancy MacConnachie was first in women’s 40 to 44 in 43:48.
