Mardi Gras is coming early to the Pemberton Valley.

The Pemberton Rotary Club is capitalizing on New Orleans’ best-known event to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Rotary Club International will disperse all proceeds from the event in the devastated city, supporting both short-term and long-term projects.

"We felt it was a very important cause to get behind," said Lizz Kelley, spokesperson for the club’s event committee. "In Pemberton we all know what it feels like to have a flood – to be disconnected – and how amazing it was when people came out to help us. We wanted to do the same."

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Pemberton Golf and Country Club. The Mardi Gras theme will extend beyond the costume ball aspect of the evening into the sales of those coveted Mardi Gras beads, Cajun appetizers and dancing with DJ Erin, who specializes in laying down Zydeco beats.

Silent and live auctions will also be part of the evening that kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

Advance tickets for the evening are $15 and are available in Pemberton at Charisma’s Emporium and The Pemberton Valley Lodge. In Whistler, tickets can be purchased at Dream Merchants. Tickets at the door will be $20.
