Whistler's Will Routley will race at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday, Aug. 3, the final day of the event currently being held in Glasgow, Scotland.

The pro cyclist will ride for Canada in the men's road race, making his second appearance at the Commonwealth Games. Routley also competed in India in 2010, recording a 19th-place finish.

Road-race competitors will ride a city circuit course 14 times for a total length of 168 kilometres. Routley said prior to the Games that he felt the course — featuring short, steep climbing sections — set up well for him in his quest to become a Commonwealth Games medallist.

The race begins at 4 a.m. PDT. Live streaming Games coverage is scheduled to begin at www.cbc.ca/sports/commonwealthgames at 3 a.m.

LOCALS IN THE MIX AT SINGLETRACK 6

Routley's dad, Tony, is among a handful of Sea to Sky riders participating in Singletrack 6, a multi-stage mountain bike race held on both sides of the B.C.-Alberta border.

Routley, Whistler's Michael Robinson and Squamish's Greg Day are among the local folks competing in the race's solo classes. Routley sat second in the men's 50-plus division through the fourth stage on Tuesday, July 29, having earned runner-up honours on all four legs.

Day ranked fourth, and Robinson 14th, in the men's open class after Tuesday's results. The event concludes Thursday, July 31, in Invermere.

AUGER ON PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM

Whistler's Alex Auger captured a silver medal at Kicking Horse's Western Open last weekend, an event that also doubled as the Cycling BC Provincial Downhill Championships and the most recent stop on the BC Cup circuit.

Auger finished 1.26 seconds behind Calgary's Pierson McKibbon in the U17 expert men's race to earn the runner-up finish.

Fellow resort resident Isaac Marangoni rode to seventh place in the junior expert men's event (U19).

The BC Cup series concludes in Fernie on Aug. 30.
