Whistler’s Tony Routley won the Masters 45 to 49 age category at the Gears Racing Canada Cup in Hardwood Hills, Ontario last week, finishing more than nine minutes ahead of his closest competition.

The result was redemption for Routley, who was leading in the previous Canada Cup race in Quebec when he had a massive mechanical problem. He finished fourth in that race.

Routley average 18.22 kilometres an hour on the course, coming across the line in 1:53:36, 9:11.6 faster than his next closest competitor.

His time would have put him in eighth in the Masters 30 to 39 age category.

The Canada Cup series is taking a break until late summer with back-to-back races in Calgary and Fernie on Aug. 8 and 15 respectively.
