Routley, Symmetrics Cycling team turning professional in 2005

In its second year the Symmetrics Cycling road team, which includes Whistler’s Will Routley, raced 103 days and finished with 95 podium appearances and 41 victories, including two national championship titles.

These results have spurred team management to formally submit their letter of intent with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a North American Continental Team (formerly Division 3) under the new UCI Road Reform.

This will allow Routley and the Symmetrics team to enter big races such as the Tour de Georgia, the Wachovia Cycling Series including the USPRO Championships and the T-Mobile International in San Francisco.

The Symmetrics team roster has not been finalized but Svein Tuft, Cam Evans, Routley, Marsh Cooper, and Andrew Pinfold have already been confirmed.

"We established ourselves as a North American force to be reckoned with in 2004," said Symmetrics Cycling Director Jeremy Storie.

"For 2005 we have expanded our race plan and rounded out our team in a concerted effort to develop and highlight our young talent. Registering as a UCI Continental Team was the next logical progression for our team. Now our riders will have an opportunity to race in more of North America’s premier events and we can raise the profile of our team, and by extension our sponsors."

The Symmetrics team was established in the spring of 2002 and has since capitalized on a core group of B.C.’s most promising young riders.
