Runners strong at B.C. Championships

A handful of local runners took part in the annual B.C. Athletics Cross Country Championships in Coquitlam last weekend, posting some top results in their various age categories.

A handful of local runners took part in the annual B.C. Athletics Cross Country Championships in Coquitlam last weekend, posting some top results in their various age categories.

In the 14-year-old category, Whistler’s Gillian McArthur finished in third place with a time of 13 minutes 34.86 seconds for 3.475 kilometres.

Scott Pass was seventh overall in the men’s 40 to 44 Masters’ category with a time of 31:40.24 for 8.5 km.

Kevin Titus won the 8.5 km men’s 45 to 49 race with a time of 28:28.51.

Meanwhile his son Morgan Titus, competing for UBC, was third in the men’s 18 to 19 age group with a time of 21:48:45 over 6.825 km.

The top runners in each category qualify to represent B.C. at the 2002 Canadian Cross Country Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick on Nov. 30.

In addition, brothers Morgan and Joren Titus will be representing the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds at the North American Intramural Athletics Cascade Conference, Region 1, cross country championships hosted by the Southern Oregon University in Ashland on Nov. 9.
