Runners strong in Victoria Marathon

There was a sizeable turnout from Whistler and Pemberton in the 26 th Annual Royal Victoria Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K race on Saturday, taking advantage of the perfect racing conditions to post some solid times in all events.

Whistler’s Daniel Havens finished 60 th overall in the marathon with a time of three hours and two minutes exactly. That placed him sixth in the men’s 45 to 49 race.

Joe Hertz finished in 3:17:02, 132 nd overall and seventh in the 30 to 34 race.

Lisa Kallio was 157 th overall in 3:19:18, and was seventh in the women’s 30 to 34 group.

Robert Tan was 52 nd in the men’s 45 to 49 race in 3:31:10.

Shizuo Kashino was 60 th in the Men’s 40 to 44 group in 3:31:24.

Patrick Gosslin was 58 th in the 30 to 34 race in 3:33:05.

Chris Gamel was 33 rd in the men’s 50 to 54 category in 3:40:46.

Stephanie Coughlin of Pemberton was 44 th in the women’s 35 to 39 race in 3:53:58.

Sylvia Petroci and Allison Van Gruen ran together to finish 74 th and 7 th in the women’s 35 to 39 race with a time of 4:07:42.

Corinne Cowden was 95 th in the women’s 40 to 44 race in 4:12:47.

Ken Roberts was 119 th in the men’s 30 to 34 group in 4:20:35.

Heather Abernethy was 79 th in the women’s 30 to 34 race in 4:21:05.

Sarah O’Brien was 97 th in the same category with a time of 4:32:42.

Michael Hutchison was 122 nd in the men’s 40 to 44 race in 4:48:25.

Suzanne Adamson was 122 nd in the 30 to 34 group in 5:04:34.

Loreth Beswetherick was 161 st in the women’s 40 to 44 race in 5:07:06.

Richard Arnold was a late starter, but was 25 th in the men’s 20 to 24 group in 4:35:51.

Over 2,000 runners took part in the marathon.

In the 21.1 km half marathon, Four Seasons manager Scott Taber posted the top time of 1:23:39, finishing sixth in the men’s 40 to 44 age group while finishing 47 th overall.

Michel Berthoud was 24 th in the men’s 30 to 34 race in 1:30:59.

Vanessa Murphy was 45 th in the women’s 30 to 34 race in 1:47:02.

Donnie Carmichael was 44 th in the men’s 50 to 54 race in 1:47:27.

Chris White was 94 th in the men’s 30 to 34 race in 1:48:49.

Jacqueline Paterson was 41 st in the women’s 20 to 24 race in 1:51:36.

Mike Kargl was 114 th in the men’s 30 to 34 race and Tory Younger seventh in the women’s 25 to 29 group with matching times of 1:54:41.

Susan Allen was 75 th in the women’s 45 to 49 race in 1:58:07.

Ski coach Joze Sparovec was 45 th in the men’s 50 to 54 group, running the course with his wife Mariana Sparovec in 2:01:25.

Heather White was 288 th in the women’s 30 to 34 race in 2:23:20.

From Pemberton, Richard Shallard was 83 rd in the men’s 40 to 44 race in 1:47:41.

Mark Leverton was 65 th in the men’s 50 to 54 race in 1:51:43.

Grace Chadsey was 57 th in the women’s 40 to 44 race in 1:53:07.

Close to 3,500 people took part in the half marathon.

Ian White was the lone Whistler runner in the 8km race, finishing 17 th in the men’s 30 to 34 group in 39:21.
