Santa Claus is coming to Pemberton

Breakfast or lunch with the jolly old elf this Saturday

Santa Claus will be taking a break from overseeing the frenzied toy production at the North Pole to visit Pemberton this Saturday.

"Things are going really well up here," confirmed Mr. Claus, reached at his workshop by phone. "The Elves’ Union has been great. I’m really impressed with the stocking stuffer division. And Mrs.Claus? Well, let’s just say she’s just looking forward to our vacation in January."

Rumoured to be still reviewing his famous "Naughty or Nice List," the man said he would only answer the allegation with a hearty, "Ho, ho, ho."

Santa, no stranger to snowy terrain, has long been a fan of the Sea to Sky corridor.

"I’m very excited to be able to come to Pemberton just two weeks before Christmas Eve," he said. "And to be able to have breakfast and lunch is a real treat! After Christmas last year Mrs. Claus had me on the Atkins diet because of the cookie thing."

Residents will have two chances to sit down, have a bite to eat and make any last minute additions to their wish lists on Saturday, Dec. 10.

The man in red will be showing up at Pemberton Secondary School to take part in the annual grad fundraising event, Breakfast with Santa, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The breakfast is $6 for adults and $4 for children. People are encouraged to bring their cameras and get a picture with St. Nick.

But if his classic fur-trimmed suit’s going to still fit by Christmas Eve, he’s going to have to go easy on the pancakes as he’ll be leaving the breakfast to attend a hotdog and marshmallow roast at the Pemberton Heritage Museum. The lunch event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. There will be another opportunity to grab a photo and spend a little quality lap time with Kris Kringle. The museum gift store will also be open for last minute shopping. The event is by donation.

However, don’t expect to see the sleigh. With the reindeer having to use the sleigh as part of their training program to get them in shape for the big night, Mr. Claus will be arriving to the museum by alternate transport. Sources close to the jolly old elf claim that the vehicle may indeed be a fire engine.
