School budget goes ahead

The School Board gave the green light to their annual budget on Wednesday without much commotion, confirmed the board's secretary and treasurer John Hetherington.

Folded into the budget is an $80,000 shortfall, which will be covered by last year's surplus.

That red ink is significantly less than the $770,000 figure the board was eyeing when the numbers were first compiled in March, but the board worked with schools throughout the district to offset the deficit.

An updated budget will be put together in the fall when school commences and school administrators known the precise number of students in each class.
