Schramm Vodka to be showcased by LDB during Olympics

Pemberton's Schramm Vodka is moving full speed ahead, with a store now open at its distillery in the industrial park and a marketing deal that will see it get prime exposure during the 2010 Olympics.

The Schramm Vodka store had its soft opening Wednesday, Dec. 16, drawing a total of two customers, owner Tyler Schramm said with a laugh.

"It went good," he said. "It's definitely a bit of a soft opening for us because it's still a work in progress. It's good to have it finally open and ready to go."

Outside a low turnout for the store's opening, Schramm said his operation has done good business in the past month after a lull in October and November. He said he's getting good feedback from consumers and some great reviews from writers in various publications.

"We've had great coverage and some great reviews by a couple of Vancouver spirits critics, which has really helped us along," he said. "I think we're pretty happy with where we're at. We're only about four and a half months into sales now so I think we're doing pretty well for where we're at."

As for sales, Schramm Vodka is sold directly to the provincial government's Liquor Distribution Branch, which orders the spirit and ships it to government liquor stores, so the only indication of how well he's doing is when he gets more orders.

"It's kind of tough to quantify that because we only deliver our product directly to the LDB," Schramm said. "We don't' really know until at least a month later how the product actually is sold on their side of things. They've ordered a fair amount of product from us."

The LDB has chosen Schramm Vodka as one of a number of products to be showcased at B.C. Liquor Stores during the Olympics. Schramm doesn't know exactly how it will be exhibited but he thinks there will be a special display at the front of the stores with a description of each product.

"It will be the first thing you see when you walk in," Schramm said.
