The Whistler Sea Wolves swim club has been training hard and competing at a high level all season, making huge strides since the New Year with personal bests and podiums at three meets, including the provincial championships.

Most recently the team took part in the Lower Mainland Regional Championships in Richmond, March 9 and 10. There were over 300 swimmers taking part, but the Sea Wolves held their own with personal bests and top-three finishes.

Stephane Barnett qualified for the BC Long Course Provincial Championships with his results, including some first place finishes. His best event was the 200-metre backstroke, where he built a five second lead to secure his qualification in the 14-year-old category for the BC Short Course Provincial Championships in 2014. The girl's relay team — Samantha Deally, Pietra Kamstra, Lauren Wentzel and JJ Deane — set a new club record and were top 16 in several events for the 12 and under girls.

Previous results this season include a bronze medal in the Boys 11 and Under Freestyle event at the BC Provincial Short Course Championship in Surrey by Pemberton's Gage Tindall, and 17 personal best times for Tindall, Ian Milley and Eli Tindall. The three boys made the finals in seven events.

As well, the club took part in a meet in Kamloops in February, the week before provincials. Katarina Kranjc led the team by finishing first in four of six events and second in the other two races. Head coach Annick Fouckal said Kranjc would be competing with the male members of the team at the provincial championships level by the end of the spring session. Other swimmers at that meet — Colin Faiella, Eric Milley, Jacob Spierings and Mackenzie Williamson also won 20 ribbons for posting personal best times in their event and placing in the top eight.

The Sea Wolves have been working to rebuild the program, and heading into the winter competitive season the club debuted a logo and gear with some assistance of a Community Gaming Grant and support from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation. The club is expecting almost 50 members to start the spring session after March Break. For more, visit www.whistlerseawolves.com.
