"As the number of Sea2Summit weekend warriors exceeds 2,000, Greg (Sproule) and I realized we needed to bring in an experienced sports marketing agency," said race co-founder Dean Payne. "Trojan has an impressive record as an innovative agency known for elevating non-mainstream events to a higher level. That’s exactly what we’re looking for."

The Sea2Summit Series is the largest multi-disciplined adventure racing series of its kind in the world, and plans on getting larger by adding two new events in 2002, including a finals in Costa Rica. Each race combines a number of individual and team sports, including paddling, swimming, trekking, climbing, mountain biking and orienteering.

The goal is to change race locations as often as possible because "we can’t have them too close together or they’d lose their appeal," says Payne. "We want to be in different exotic locations."

The Sea2Summit group is already partners with Intrawest, which provides lodging and venues for each race in the 2001 series. All four races on the 2001 calendar are televised on the Outdoor Life Network.

Trojan will be responsible for sponsorship sales, public relations and marketing of both the American and Canadian races.

"We have the opportunity to put Sea2Summit at the front of adventure racing, which is exactly what we intend on doing," says Trojan vice president David Thomson.

The Sea2Summit Series kicks off at Panorama on July 6 to 8, then moves to Copper Mountain in Colorado for Aug. 4 and 5. The event will be in Whistler from Sept. 8 to 9. The finals will take place at Mont Ste. Marie from Sept. 29 to 30.
