A woman in her late 30s has been transported by air ambulance to the Lower Mainland after a serious accident around 7:30 a.m. this morning in Whistler.

A car was travelling northbound on Highway 99 when it lost control and slid into the southbound lane, according to a release from the Whistler RCMP. A van travelling southbound collided with the car on the passenger side.

“The driver of the car has been taken to the local clinic with critical injuries, and is being airlifted out for treatment,” advised Sgt. Rob Knapton of the Whistler RCMP.

The two occupants of the minivan were shaken, but uninjured.

ICARS is at the scene as well as Sea-to-Sky Traffic Services. Current highway information is posted on www.drivebc.ca and will be updated as needed.

Traffic delays are ongoing exiting the village, past the scene of the accident, near the entrance to the Nordic neighbourhood.
