Juno Award nominees Simple Plan rock an open-air concert to celebrate Canadian athletes competing in the Torino 2006 Winter Games as part of the Bell Goldrush party Feb. 25-26 in Whistler.
The Canadian power pop band kicks off the two-day event with its free show Saturday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. in Whistler Village Square.
The band’s top award credits include the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, multiple MuchMusic People’s Choice Awards, MTV awards and Juno nominations, including Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Group of the Year.
The Montreal-based band, whose humble beginnings consisted of cramming five kids into their parent’s station wagon to tour Canada, has grown to garner cult followings. In addition to selling a couple million albums, the punk rockers have shared stages with the likes of Rancid and Aerosmith and spent three years with the Vans Warped Tour (two as headliners).
Simple Plan’s album Still Not Getting Any was produced by Bob Rock, whose credits include Metallica and Motley Crüe.
It’s early to rise on Sunday with everyone invited to partake in the live broadcast of the final day of the Torino 2006 Olympic Games on a giant outdoor Jumbotron screen in Village Square, with special guest host George Stroumboulopoulos, former MuchMusic personality and current host of CBC Newsworld’s The Hour.
The live broadcast includes the men’s hockey gold medal game from 5 to 7:30 a.m. and the closing ceremonies from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
