Skaters win 10 medals at Jingle Blades

The Whistler Skating Club had one of its most successful weekends ever at the annual Jingle Blades Freeskate Competition in White Rock, with 10 skaters placing in the top six to earn medals.

The Whistler Skating Club had one of its most successful weekends ever at the annual Jingle Blades Freeskate Competition in White Rock, with 10 skaters placing in the top six to earn medals.

The gold medals were won by Samatha Shrimpton and Broderick Thompson, competing in Senior Bronze Ladies and Pre-Novice Men’s Long Program respectively.

Rebecca Blaser won a silver competing in Elementary Ladies 10 and Over, Group 3. (Because of the large number of participants, some categories are broken up into subgroups.)

Bryn Horner and Hilary Iles won bronze in the Pre-Preliminary Ladies 11 and Over category and Senior Bronze Ladies respectively, both in Group 3.

Tess Thompson was fourth in Preliminary Ladies 10 and under, Group 1.

Chantal and Cassidy Dean tied for fifth place in Preliminary Ladies 10 and Under, Group 2, while Beverly Horler was fifth in Junior Bronze Ladies 12 and Under, Group 1.

Emily Cankovic picked put up the club’s 10 th medal, placing sixth in Elementary Ladies 10 and Over, Group 4.

The other participating skaters finished in the top-10. Lucy Halliwell was ninth in Junior Bronze Ladies 13 and Over, Group 2, and Marielle Thompson was eighth in Senior Bronze Ladies, Group 3.

Jingle Blades is a non-qualifying competition. The next qualifying competition for Whistler skaters is the B.C. Coast Regional Championships in February.
