Ski club celebrating new season in style

David McPhail bringing The Epics band back to Whistler

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club is gearing up to launch the 2009-2010 season in a big way, with the Epic Winter Kick Off Party and Auction at the Whistler Conference Centre on Saturday, Dec. 12.

WMSC is considered to be one of the premier training organizations for young alpine racers in North America, with its athletes capturing numerous medals and top 10 finishes at a variety of levels. Over the years, the club has produced many athletes who have gone on to compete on the provincial and national alpine ski teams, including Britt and Michael Janyk, Alison Forsyth, Manuel Osborne-Paradis and Robbie Dixon.

A non-profit organization, WMSC is also largely volunteer-driven and relies on fundraising efforts for almost 40 per cent of training costs.

The club's annual season opening party and auction is one of its major fundraising events. And this year, it promises to be a particularly impressive event, featuring live music from Canada's well-known R&B band The Epics, great food, a silent auction, and a children's room to keep the kids entertained.

Tickets are $69, or $130 per couple and $600 for 10 tickets. Organizers are still accepting donations for the silent auction, and anyone interested in attending or making a contribution can call 604-932-4644 ext. 100.
