Ski club offers tunes, bikes and skis

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club is holding a triple-header fundraiser this weekend to help raise money for the coming season.

Wax Days

With ski season just six weeks away, it’s time to start getting your gear in order.

You can get an early start this weekend by getting your skis or snowboard tuned and waxed by some of the top alpine skiers in the province, as the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and Greg Gardner Pontiac GMC once again host Wax Days at the ski club cabin in Creekside.

In exchange for a small donation, the local alpine racers will tune your skis or snowboard using wax and supplies donated by Greg Gardner. All of the funds raised will go towards purchasing new training equipment for the club, hosting events, and programs to help athletes reach the next level.

Not only will you get an expert tune and wax, you’ll also be eligible to win an Atomic prize package worth $250. There will also be an opportunity to enter a nationwide contest to win a 2005 GMC Envoy.

Wax Days take place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ski club cabin is located at 2028 Rob Boyd Way in Creekside, next door to Legends.

WMSC Bike-a-thon

The ski club is hosting its 14 th annual Bike-a-thon on Oct. 11 at the Whistler Interpretive Forest at 9 a.m. with riders making several laps of to raise money to off-set their training and program costs for the season.

The racers train year-round on snow and in the gym, and many of them need support to realize their goals. To sign a pledge form or support someone you know, contact the WMSC at 604-932-4644.

The cost is $3 per tagged item, and the WMSC gets a 20 per cent commission on all items sold. The swamp is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and wraps up at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday with a blowout sale.
