The Canadian Ski Cross Team raced its first pro event of the season, taking part in last weekend’s Jeep King of the Mountain races at Telluride, Colorado.
The best result of the day belonged to Anik Demers-Wild, who made the finals and landed in fourth place after making a move to get into first that didn’t pan out.
Whistler’s Ashleigh McIvor also had a good day until she was knocked out of bounds by another competitor. Julia Murray made her debut with the team, and was bumped out of the brackets by Demers-Wild. Alyssa Wilson, the fourth woman on the team, crashed hard in training and withdrew from the race.
On the men’s side the top result belonged to Chris Del Bosco, who finished seventh.
“Already I see a marked difference in the way I approach the race,” said Del Bosco. “Last season I would rely on my ability to pass people to achieve success (and) this season I’m able to put myself in position right off the bat and concern myself with maintaining my position in first or second.”
Stanley Hayer and Davey Barr were both eliminated in the Round of 16.
The top three men were Lars Lewin, Darron Rahlves and Thomas Kraus, while the top women were Ophelie David, Karin Huttary and Magda Johnnson.
