Ski Foundation breaks away from Snow Show

The Vancouver Ski Foundation is breaking away from the large Vancouver Snow Show, and will be hosting its annual swap at the Seaforth Armouries on Burrard Street in Vancouver, from Oct. 19 to 21, with a few select retailers and the participation of local mountains, including Whistler-Blackcomb.

"No ramps, loud music or high costs," says organizer Joan McCulloch. "In addition, no professional management, thus the board is actively working to ensure we can raise funds for the sport this year."

Bob Cooper from Mount Seymour will co-ordinate the swap, and work with the retailers. The admission is a suggested donation of $2, up to a maximum of $5 for families, with all proceeds going towards junior racing and snow sport programs in B.C. The list includes the B.C. Alpine Ski Association, B.C. Coastal Zone programs, Ski Patrol, the Whistler Cup international juvenile race series, ski racers that are in need of grants, and grass roots programs for snowboarders.

The swap will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday and from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
