Ski team lands skiwear deal

Alpine Canada Alpin inked a five-year, multi-million dollar skiwear agreement with Spyder Active Sports on July 16.

Alpine Canada Alpin inked a five-year, multi-million dollar skiwear agreement with Spyder Active Sports on July 16.

The Canadian downhillers will wear Spyder’s trademark spiderweb designs in World Cup, Europa Cup, Nor Am Cup, and Olympic races for the next five years. The alpine skiing program will also receive funding from Spyder.

"As a flag waving Canadian through my racing and coaching days, it’s fantastic to have the Canadian Alpine Ski Team racing in Spyder speedsuits," said Montreal native David Jacobs, a former racer and coach for the Canadian national team, and the owner and president of Spyder, which is based in Colorado.

The technical race suits are crafted to create the most aerodynamic effect while meeting the safety and performance standards set out by the International Ski Federation.

Spyder will also supply all training and outerwear, including jackets, pants, training vests, slalom shorts and shin guards.

The Canadian Alpine Ski Team has had a clothing agreement with Descente for many years.

The Canadian Freestyle Ski Team also recently signed a deal with Spyder.
