Skier cross goes provincial through WMSC

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club has been encouraging skiers to race ski cross events for years, both as a way to improve skills, and as a way for older skiers to stay involved with racing and the club.

Last year, with the announcement that ski cross would be part of the 2010 Games, the Whistler Mountain Ski Club created a more formal ski cross program.

Now, with the Canadian National Skier X Team in operation for a full year, the team is launching a B.C. program for development level skiers. The program will be run through the WMSC and is designed for athletes that want to progress to the national level. The head coach is Greg Frechette, who held his first year orientation on Nov. 7, along with program manager Chris Kent.

There is a cost to joining the program, including $675 for WMSC membership and team fees, plus an additional $1,500 for coaching and partial travel costs to three provincial events around B.C. during the competition season.
