On April 10 the Whistler RCMP received a report of an avalanche on Fissile Peak, an out-of-bounds area accessible from Whistler.
According to the Canadian Avalanche Centre report a group of three backcountry skiers was caught in a slide at around 3:30 p.m.
The avalanche was classed as a 1.5, with a 150-metre wide slab about 30 centimetres deep running for 250 metres.
Two of the skiers were partially buried and two injuries were reported that required rescue by helicopter.
One of the men involved in the slide wrote a report for the Canadian Avalanche Centre that describes the incident.
Two men were in the slab when it broke away. Both were carried off a cliff and partially buried. Both came to a stop with their airways clear and proceeded to self-rescue.
One member of the party contact Whistler Ski Patrol, which sent a helicopter to the scene to pick up the men and bring them to the Whistler Health Care Centre.
At the time of the slide the avalanche risk was rated as Considerable, but has since dropped to Moderate in the alpine and below treeline.
