Whistler resort is taking the ski magazine world by storm. Skiing magazine has for the first time rated Whistler the best ski resort in North America, bumping last year’s number one, Vail, down one notch to second. Last year Whistler ranked second to Vail in Skiing’s survey. Editors of Skiing magazine rank their favourite overall ski resorts and also rank them in 11 specific categories, such as bumps, partying, powder, adventure and value. Whistler/Blackcomb ranks in the top three in only one individual category, at third best for steeps, behind Squaw Valley in California and Jackson Hole in Wyoming. Snow Country magazine rated Whistler number one in its September issue, for the fifth straight year. Snow Country's ratings are determined by reader polls (75 per cent) and statistics (25 per cent). Last year, for the first time, SKI magazine rated Whistler number one. SKI’s annual rankings will be published in its October issue. The rest of Skiing’s top 10 resorts, in order are: 2. Vail, 3. Alta, Utah, 4. Sun Valley, Idaho, 5. Jackson Hole, 6. Telluride, Colo., 7. Steamboat, Colo., 8. Snowbird, Utah, 9. Sugarbush, Vt., 10 Taos, New Mexico.
