Slow Food ramps up

Volunteers, ideas needed for Slow Food Cycle

The public is invited to a community open house Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Pemberton Legion to discuss plans currently underway for Pemberton’s signature agritourism event, Slow Food Cycle Sunday, set to take place Aug. 19 in Pemberton.

“We’ve had incredible community and volunteer support form the outset,” said event organizer Anna Helmer. “Slow Food Cycle Sunday is definitely a showcase of the best of Pemberton, both its produce and its people.”

Slow Food Cycle Sunday is a daylong event that invites friends, family and foodies to hop on a bike and cycle around the Pemberton Valley to explore, sample and shop at local farms. Each farm hosts different events. Some have chefs in action moving plant to plate. Others host musicians and artists adding to the colour of this popular event.

While many community groups have already come out to show their support, including funding partners, the Pemberton Search and Rescue, and Pemberton’s Rotary and Lions Clubs, volunteers are still needed.

Interested participants are invited to attend the informal meeting to offer up ideas and suggestions on how to make this year’s event an even bigger success.

The Slow Food Cycle Sunday committee has received financial support from the Village of Pemberton, Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Sea to Sky Community Services. Funds will focus on the production of an almanac this year to provide information to help people eat closer to home.
