Local band Slush draws from the California punk scene, describing themselves as "poppy melodic."

The quartet features drummer Jamie Weatherbee, two guitarists, and a lead singer.

"We’re more technical now, with fast aggressive double guitar lines," says Weatherbee.

Citing Lay Wagon as a big influence on their work, they hope to record their next compilation in a studio and are shopping around. They also hope to play some of the winter mountain events, such as the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, and have moved up their February 2002 recording deadline so as to include such gigs.

From 1994 through 1998 the band produced a demo every year, but members took a leave of absence, in Oz and elsewhere, for the past three years. Now, one of the few remaining local bands that plays to a predominantly snowboarding/skateboarding crowd, is back with new material.

With just a few Canadian labels, like 212 Records, featuring punk music, Slush has looked south for support and found a good response in towns like Santa Barbara, Calif., where they established contacts and recorded their last two demos.
