Whether its a little après romance or intense vertical that makes your knees go weak, Whistler is the place to be.
This year marks the eighth in a row that readers of Skiing Magazine have ranked Whistler the number one ski resort destination in North America. The magazines readers also gave top honours to the moutains vertical and the villages après scene.
"Whistler simply scored better across the board, in every category vertical drop, acreage, reader and athlete surveys than any other resort. Its enormous, varied, and has a world-famous party scene, and that's what our readers are looking for,"said Mike Kessler, executive editor of Skiing Magazine .
Transworld Snowboarding Magazine
annual reader survey also positioned the resort as the clear favourite. Specific features appealing to snowboarders also faired well, with the boarding park ranking second and the pipe coming in third.Tourism Whistler sees these results as proof that Whistler-Blackcombs commitment to providing quality ski and boarding experiences has not gone unnoticed.
"Wed like to thank the skiers and snowboarders, as well as the pro
athletes and editors that have consistently enjoyed our mountains and rated us their favourite. We appreciate their support and Whistler will continue to strive to meet their high standards," said Barrett Fisher, president of Tourism Whistler.
When the mountains officially open on November 25, snow sports enthusiasts will be treated to an additional 1,100 acres of terrain, a unique "in bounds backcountry experience" in Flute Bowl, major renovations to Creekside and a new Super Night Pipe on Blackcomb Mountain. These developments are all part of the $14.2 million worth of improvements undertaken by the mountain this year.
While SKI Magazine rated the resort a lukewarm number five, readers of that journal did concede that Whistler was number one when it came to "Best Singles Adventure."
In January, Whistler will host North Americas first ever FIS Snowboard World Championships. More than 400 of the worlds best athletes from more than 40 countries will compete in Halfpipe, Big Air, Snowboard Cross, Parallel Giant Slalom, and Parallel Slalom events.
