Winter isn't over yet.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Sea to Sky corridor with anywhere from 20 to 30 cm expected to fall on Saturday, Feb. 17.
"Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow," officials warned in a release.
Meanwhile, Avalanche Canada has raised the avalanche danger to considerable for both the alpine and treeline in the corridor today. Although officials anticipated areas around Squamish could get enough snow to warrant raising the risk to high later on.
The Ministry of Public Safety also issued a release to warn backcountry users about the storm this weekend, which is expected to be followed by a drop in temperatures. "Anyone exploring the trails, mountains and backcountry areas of British Columbia must be prepared to take care of themselves and their companions with suitable equipment, first-aid supplies and an awareness of the risks," it said in the statement."
That includes: never travelling alone, planning ahead, preparing for the elements and carrying a signalling device. On top of that, it said, if you're lost, don't move. Stay put and wait for help.
