Snowshoe racer steals Squamish Thunder

Andrew Clarke, the force behind the Yeti snowshoe racing series, showed that he can move pretty quickly in shoes as well last weekend as he led a strong field to win the Squamish Thunder 10 Mile Trail Run.

Clarke finished the course in one hour, three minutes and 12 seconds, almost a minute ahead of Coo Duncan’s time of 1:04:09. Jeb Breckenridge was third in 1:04:31.

Mount Currie’s Sean Wolfe led the second group, finishing in 1:05:49, just over 16 seconds ahead of Whistler’s Duncan Munro.

"It was a pretty good run but I had a big week of running and training the week before, I wasn’t really trying to have a big race. I tried a little harder when I realized I could catch Sean Wolfe, but he finished about 15 seconds ahead. Any time you can finish 15 seconds behind that guy is pretty good," said Munro.

Other Whistler runners on the list are Lindsay Dyck, who was 14 th overall and third among women in 1:11:16. Scott Whelan was 23 rd in 1:16:24, Shane Robilliard 30 th in 1:19:10, Vanessa Murphy 35 th in 1:21:00, Francois Fournier 43 rd in 1:22:52 and Megan Wastle 60 th in 1:29:10.
