Soccer school returns to Whistler

The European Football School, one of the premier soccer training programs in the province, is returning to Whistler for a week-long camp at the invitation of the Whistler Youth Soccer Club.

This is the fourth year for the program, which is offering clinics for local kids as young as five and as old as 18. Saibo Talic, once a professional player in his former country Yugoslavia, is once again the head coach for the school. In addition he is a technical advisor for the B.C. Soccer Association.

He will be joined by other coaches from the EFS, a list which in the past has included former national team stars, university-level coaches, and former professional players.

The school runs from July 5 to 9 on the lower fields at Myrtle Philip School.

New this year is a separate session for players aged 5-6, providing at least 12 people are registered. The regular camps are for youth aged 7-11 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. daily and aged 12-18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The programs focus on basic skills training, game skills and fitness. Whistler’s soccer coaches are also invited to come out and learn from the EFS coaches.

To register for the camp, contact Andree Janyk from the Whistler Youth Soccer Club at avajanyk@telus.net or drop by the soccer fields this Saturday to pick up an entry form from our coaches. The deadline for registration is June 18.
