Some adult passes up, kids passes down

Value emphasized in 2006-07 season pass prices

The early bird price for an unlimited Adult season pass has gone up for the first time in two years, but Whistler-Blackcomb says the $40 increase is more than offset by $22.1 million in capital improvements and the new $9.2 million Symphony Express chair.

Whistler-Blackcomb announced its 2006-07 pass pricing Monday. Passes go on sale Sept. 5, with early bird pricing available until Oct. 9.

Season passes purchased by Oct. 9 will include daily on-mountain restaurant savings and up to $600 in offers.

“Each year we work hard to provide the best possible value to all of our guests by continually striving to improve our product,” said Stuart Rempel, Whistler-Blackcomb’s Senior VP of Marketing and Sales. “This year we are spending $22.1 million on capital improvement and maintenance projects and our season passholders are going to be the biggest benefactors of these improvements. Providing things like the new Symphony Express, a rejuvenated food and beverage experience as well as additional snowmaking, all while maintaining affordable season pass prices, are just some ways we strive to please our most loyal customers.”

An Adult unlimited season pass bought by Oct. 9 will be $1,369, up from $1,329 the last two winters. The Spirit Pass, available to employees of businesses who are members of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, will be $1,029 this winter, compared to $999 the last two years.

Dropping in price are the Child (7-12) and Youth (13-18) early bird prices. At 22 per cent lower than last year, the Child early bird price is $319 while the Youth early bird price is $499, a 24 per cent drop in price from last year. A Senior (65-74) Pass purchased at the early bird price is $679, up from $659 last winter. Super Seniors (75+) remain at $99 and Parent Passes are $1,369 while tots six and under still ski for free.

Whistler Blackcomb’s family focus extends even further with an additional family discount on Season Pass pricing. When purchasing one Adult or Senior Season Pass and a Youth or Child Season Pass for a family member, passholders will receive 10 per cent off the total price. For example, the family discount on an adult and a youth pass results in a further $180 in savings. When added to the new low prices for Youth and Child Passes, the family savings are significant.

The Sea to Sky Student Season Pass, which provides unlimited skiing and riding to local students up to the age of 18, will be $309 and must be purchased by Oct. 9.

Full-time students 25 and under registered in college or university in B.C. or Washington can purchase the 4buy4 pass for $369. This pass provides unlimited access to Whistler and Blackcomb, with the exception of Dec. 27-30, 2006.

Those who purchase a 2006-07 season pass receive coupons for discounts on ski, snowboard or outerwear gear, worth up to $300. Early bird purchasers get an additional bonus of a $100 gift certificate valid toward select Ski & Snowboard School programs. Throughout the season, a simple flash of the pass produces additional “daily savings” which include: bring-a-friend rates offering up to 40 per cent off lift tickets; food and beverage discounts from 20 per cent to 50 per cent off throughout the season; 50 per cent off tubing and night skiing/riding; 10 per cent off retail purchases all season long; and up to 50 per cent off lift tickets at other Intrawest resorts including Panorama and Tremblant. Those who purchase an Adult, Senior or Youth 2006-07 season pass also receive three free day tickets worth up to $219.

The new Symphony Express chair will provide access to 1,000 acres of intermediate and advanced terrain this winter.
