SORCA seasons wraps up with Enduro

The Squamish Off Road Cycling Association will wrap up its season this Saturday, Oct. 30, with the annual Bill Landry Loonar Enduro, a six-hour endurance race that will run until after dark.

Taking place in the Alice Lake area, participants can race as solos or pairs. There are categories for men, women and co-ed teams, solos, families and under-16 riders. All riders have to be completely self-supported with food, water and maintenance gear, and should be prepared with lights to ride about two hours in the dark. The winner in each category is the solo or team with the most laps in the shortest time.

Although the organizers hoped to host the race on easier trails this year, increasing the number of participants, logistical problems meant that the race will be held on the same route as in the past – SORCA shelter to Ed’s Bypass, Rob’s and Cliff’s corners, and back. Riders should remember to check in with the officials at the shelter after every lap to ensure that it is counted.

The cost is $25 to take part, which includes the post-enduro party. You must be a member of SORCA to participate. Memberships for 2005 can be purchased, which will be good until the end of next season.

To register, drop by the SORCA shelter between 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., or download a registration form from www.sorca.ca.
