Sparks and bodies were flying at the fifth King of the Rail competition at the base of Blackcomb on Saturday, with more than 80 boarders and skiers taking part and dozens of spectators looking on.

Most of the attention was focused on a seven metre-long double-rail with a slight gap in the middle and ramps on the sides rather than in the front, although the younger skiers and boarders made good use of a thin rainbow rail.

At the end of an hour and a half jam session, the riders themselves voted for the winners in each category. Takayuki Isuchida won the Atomic Hatchet snowboard in the prize draw.

The next King of the Rail event takes place on Saturday, March 13. You can register at the Blackcomb Daylodge Ski School Sales desk after 4:30 p.m., and the competition gets underway at 6 p.m.

The entry fee is $2 with a Night Moves lift ticket.
