HELPING HANDS

WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP — is planning a series of volunteer action days this summer to restore and enhance fish habitat around the Whistler Valley. Volunteers donate a few hours of their time and learn much about Whistler’s aquatic ecosystem and the animals that depend on them. This is a great chance to participate in the conservation of Whistler’s natural environment. The first Volly Day is June 2, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at Lakeside Park. STORMBC BOTTLE DRIVE. The local riders of STORMBC will be taking the weekend of June 9-10 off from racing to focus on a bottle drive in Whistler. They are asking the public for help in making this fund-raiser a success. The racers will be going door-to-door from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in subdivisions throughout Whistler. The riders are also asking local bars and restaurants for help.

PEMBERTON MEADOWS MUSIC FESTIVAL. Aug. 31-Sept. 3, requires food vendors, arts/crafts vendors, musicians, ticket agents and volunteers. Please contact Barry at 604-951-0091.

INTRODUCTION TO NORTHWEST COAST NATIVE ART. An informative lecture enhancing understanding of the art and culture of the Northwest Coast First People. Approximately 30 minutes long, Mondays at 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m., Black Tusk Gallery on Main Street, 905-5540. All are welcome.

AT THE MOVIES

THE MUMMY RETURNS. Stephen Sommers brings back the tried and true story of an Egyptologist’s run-ins with a resurrected pharaoh in bandages. At the Rainbow Theatre June 1-7, at 7 p.m. Rated PG.

BRIDGET JONES DIARY. Renee Zelweger and Hugh Grant star in this comedy about a 32-year-old woman who starts keeping a diary. At the Rainbow Theatre June 1-7, 9:15 p.m. Rated PG.

ON THE MOUNTAINS

BLACKCOMB. Winter operations are now over. The Horstman Glacier opens for summer skiing/riding on June 11.

WHISTLER. Still open for skiing and boarding to June 10, but from now until June 10 sliders can share the Village Gondola with riders, as the mountain bike park is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
